Good evening everyone and welcome to my first blog post. This is all cliched and broken I am sure but I am not out to supremely impress anyone just yet. This is my first time creating and writing for a true blog and I am just trying to sort out how it is all going to work and see what this feels like. I am going to start by trying to tell you a little bit about who I am. (Yes there is an about me section but this will be a little different and more in-depth.)
The idea for this is to learn what it is to write and to get feedback and criticism from anyone who comes across this and reads it. I have always wanted to be a writer. Even as a kid, I was the one student who wrote the full two or three pages on story day at school. (Admittedly, back then I didn't understand the words copy-write infringement so some of my stuff was "stolen" in the idea category.) I have always tried to make my stories unique or different enough so that they were entertaining. With that in mind, let's meet me: My name is John Flint, the nickname flintjohnj comes from my wife and the beginning of our marriage. My father, James Flint, was often called by his last name by most anyone that he met and got to know. My wife, when we first met and were developing our relationship, called me Flint until she met my family. Quickly, her name for me became flintjohnj. She has called me many names over the years (some not so pleasant ;) ) but that has always been her nickname for me. I am just an average guy who likes to do the "nerd" thing. I have been an avid reader and video game player since I was knee high to a piss ant. I remember my first game console was an Odyssey. For those that don't know what an Odyssey is, it was one of the first in home game consoles and yes even before the Atari 2600, which I also had. I grew up with that and others. Sega and Nintendo being the most prominent among the consoles I had access to play on. I had a love affair with Castlevania, Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat just like all kids did but I also had loads of fun playing KC Munchkin (The Odyssey version of Pac-Man) and Pick Axe Pete and other games that most of you will not know. As I grew up, naturally, I made friends of the nerd persuasion and I grew in to other levels of nerddom. I loved to read as a kid and I started off with the typical kids books like Little Golden Books and Little Mr. and Mrs. books. My favorite series, of all time, even to this day, is Star Wars. I grew up on it and I will never be to old to pick up a Star Wars book and read it. I also read things like Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, J.R.R. Tolkein, and C.S. Lewis. This shaped who I became as a teenager. When I was fourteen, I met one of my now closest friends and brother, not blood but by trial and tribulation. He introduced me to a game known as Magic: The Gathering way way back when Revised was still cool and kicking. From there, I met another friend who introduced me to a whole new world of games and entertainment. I was shown Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition. From there it was always a matter of finding time to go hang out with my friends to play D & D or Magic or whatever we could find to get in to. Now, it's 2015, I am a good deal older and have gained much experience in the gaming world. I play a range of systems from Project AKO (an anime RPG that is very fast and loose.) to the old school system from West End Games known as Star Wars D6 all the way to the Mage system. Currently, I am learning and reading the rules for D & D 5e so that I can start a campaign and have some fun. My video game history grew to include Zork (Both Games), Final Fantasy (I've played most of them), and even in to MMOs such as Star Wars, Warhammer, World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars 2. I play a variety of games both electronic and board and card with my friends. I read an even wider variety of comic books, fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, and science fantasy. It is my hope to get my own works published for others to enjoy. And that is where this all starts. So welcome and please feel free to comment or even email me with thoughts, suggestions, criticisms or even ideas for subject matters. I am all ears and also love the idea of "meeting" new people. |
