Well, hello again! It's that time again. It's Tuesday night. It's X-WING NIGHT! It was a blast. We had a fair number of people. I was involved in two games and didn't get to do alot of wondering but I think the number I heard for tonight was thirteen or fourteen. In any case, we had a great turn out and I want to thank everyone for being there. Tonight, flew my modified K-wing and two B-wing list from my tournament list that I posted last night. I know we had several players there including Justin, Reuben, Haley, Fin (I hope spelled that right), James, Cody, and Josh. I didn't catch Cody's first opponent or his name but I know he was/is a friend of Billy's (who as also in attendance).
Tonight my first game was against Billy. He threw a list together at the last minute, I guess, and it was a scum list. While he was setting his list up, I was flying around the board and around obstacles to get an idea and better understand ways to fly my list. Miranda (The K-Wing) and the two Dagger Squadron pilots have very similar dials but some great differences in maneuverability. The nice thing about B-Wings is, while they have several red manuevers, that they have a 2 K-Turn. This is incredibly handy. However, you have to be able to shed the stress from the K-Turn in order to have it's full useablity. I didn't fair so badly against Billy. I won by a margin of four ships to one; where I blew up all his ships and he took out one of the B-wings. He flew well and we both had fun. For that, I am very grateful and glad. My second game of the night was against Justin. He flew a Han (Falcon) list and Tycho A-wing list. I have to say, I faired much better this time around than I did flying against him in the tournament. That is, in part, due to the fact that I learned how to really think on the fly about my opponent's flying patterns and where they are going to go next. Something about this game is that you have to be able to reliably predict where your opponent is going to go on the board. Being able to do this consistently helps. Now, with that, I like flying against Justin because he, a few times, would ask me, ok why are you doing this? What's your logic behind it? He helped me really think about my maneuvers and ship placements. There aren't many who would do that. It was a friendly game and he let me change my maneuver once. He did all this and not once did he reveal his plan nor did he change his plan if I was correct in my thought process. Afterwards, he would give me a pointer or point out something I hadn't considered. I am a better player because of it. In the end, I lost the match but I learned alot more from him. My list, for tonight, was Miranda Doni with C-3P0 and a TLT. Both my Dagger Squadron B-Wings were running FCS, Extra Munitions, and Plasma Torpedos with Guidance Chips. I flew better tonight, I did better over all. It wasn't the list, either. I think I could have done just as well if I had flown my original Miranda list with 2 X-Wings. The difference was in my thought process and my reading of the board as it sat. Oh, and I absolutely LOVE FCS. All you need to do is shoot to get a target lock. I have put a couple of other lists together and plan to bring all three to the game next week. Can't wait to see how I do with one of them. Hope to see you guys at G2K next week. Every Tuesday, Johnson City from 7pm to 9pm. Until then, everyone fly casual. |
