So apparently Weebly really hates me. I thought I posted a blog about a week ago and it did not post. I did not know this until yesterday as I haven’t had time to check on it. At this point, as well, I’ve given up keeping a schedule for blogging. It seems that every time I try to set myself up on a schedule, life gets in my way. This is a problem, as I am trying to get a reader base that is diverse and a good sized.
To recap the past few weeks, it’s probably a good thing I haven’t been trying to post a blog. I’ve been dealing with a bit of a writer’s block. I have tons of ideas but every time I go to put them down on paper, so to speak, I cannot seem to get anything to come out. I wish I understand what was causing the issue but I do not. I do know that I need to start jotting ideas down when they pop in to my head. At least that would give me a direction to go when I hit this wall the way I have been lately.
In an effort to move past some of this issue, I have decided to try a slightly different approach to my writing. I would like to start by discussing my current reading list. To begin, I am an avid Star Wars fan. I’ve been reading the EU (Extended Universe) since I was eight or nine. I am in the midst of contemplating re-reading the EU books for Star Wars but I have a few other things to handle first. I have been reading the Wheel of Time series and currently stopped at book 12, The Gathering Storm. It’s a great series but I needed a break from it. I have moved from it to The Dresden Files for the time being. Another great series and I am currently finishing up Fool Moon. I should say listening to them because I do not get a lot of time to read so I have quite a few audio books. I am currently, also, actually reading the Harry Potter series to my daughter. We are on The Chamber of Secrets. Though, I admit that I am looking for other things to read her because these books can get a bit hefty after the second book for a four year old. I am also reading a series, thanks to my wife, known as The Emperor’s Edge. It is another interesting story by an independent author.
With all these stories running around through my head I have had many ideas pop in to my head and I have been trying to jot them down as they come about to see what might come of some of them. It was my hope that I would be able to kick start my short story again but I have lost the story and I fear it will not be the first publication or even the first attempt at it. I have the entire thing archived and stored away so that maybe one day I can go back and actually finish it. My drunken angel series is not as good as I wish it were and that might sound harsh but I know good writing and I, thus far, am not there yet. I think the idea is a fantastic one but it needs more work and refinement.
I want to write something in the post-apocalyptic, futuristic, or the fantasy area. I have an idea for a story line that I want to call The Magic Chronicles about witches, warlocks, and wizards but I haven’t been able to get it down on paper much to refine it and smooth out the ideas. Along with that idea, I have found that I am influenced by a wide range of authors. Those authors include, but are not limited to, R.A. Salvatore, Timothy Zahn, Jim Butcher, Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, and J.K. Rowling to name a few. I have a huge library of books, most of which are Star Wars but others such Star Trek, Myth Inc., Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, and a myriad other types of stories and locations that I can’t begin to name them all.
I think that if I can start getting things down on paper more, then maybe it will get easier to write and form the stories I want. You may see random nonsense pop up over time and it will be me just blurting out ideas and getting them down somewhere.
